Somalia: Landmine Blast in Mogadishu Kills Three, Wounds Others

MOGADISHU, Somalia - A landmine explosion in Mogadishu's Karaan district killed three civilians and wounded multiple others on Saturday, local sources told Garowe Online.

The IED blast occurred in the El Ali Gedi area, with the sound reverberating through nearby areas, though the intended target of the attack remains unknown.

Karaan district security personnel investigated the incident but have not detained any suspects. No group has claimed responsibility, yet the attack resembles tactics typically used by al-Shabab, a group notorious for similar attacks in Somalia.

Before the incident, Somalia's Internal Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, along with top police and intelligence officials, conducted overnight patrols in Mogadishu to enhance security measures against a backdrop of recurrent violence.

The blast highlights the fragile security situation in Somalia's capital, where civilians are often caught in explosions and gun attacks. 

The attack comes hours after the Turkish research vessel Oruc Reis arrived at Mogadishu seaport in an attempt to conduct seismic surveys for oil and natural gas off the coast of Somalia.
