MOGADISHU, Somalia- Several deafening blasts heard as mortar shells fired in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Saturday afternoon, Garowe Online reports.

At least five mortar rounds landed near Jaalle Siyad military academy used by the African Union forces (AMISOM), and another military training facility in Mogadishu.

The details of the casualties as result of day-time mortar shelling in Mogadishu are yet unclear, however, Police launched an investigation into the attacks.

This attack comes as Somali government has deployed troops into the main streets of the capital to tighten the security and prevent possible Al Shabaab suicide attacks in Mogadishu.

So far no group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but security officials suspect Al Shabaab group has carried out today's mortar attacks.

Al Shabaab, the Somali-based group with ties to Al Qaida, has in the past claimed responsibility for several deadly mortar attacks near the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu which killed dozens of civilians, including children.
