Somalia: PM in Baidoa for reconciliation conference

BAIDOA, Somalia Sept 15, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Abiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed has arrived in Bay regional capital of Baidoa for southwestern state reconciliation conference on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking to conference participants, Prime Minister Mohamed expressed hope about the outcome of state-building gathering and urged the clan elders and political leaders to come up with fruitful decisions.

“It is an honor for me to officially open southwest reconciliation conference. I wish this meeting would build confidence of local communities,” said Mohamed, adding that lasting peace is of utmost priority at all times.

Meanwhile, in attendance was also Parliament Speaker Mohamed Shiekh Osman Jawari who stressed the need for solutions to standing differences. ]

“This conference is part of steps meant for bringing the grudges among the residents of [Bay, Bakool and Lower Shabelle regions] to an end and concession is important over the course of the deliberations,” Jawari went on.

Southwest reconciliation conference which consists of three phases will last for 45 days according to organizers. At the end of the gathering, technical committee is set to put pressure on rival politicians to agree on three-region state.
