Somalia: President Hassan in Addis Ababa for AU Summit

ADDIS ABABA, Somalia Jan 29, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa for the 24th session of African Union (AU) heads of State, Garowe Online reports.

Accompanied by cabinet ministers and presidential officials, Mohamud Thursday jetted off at Adan Ade International airport.

A spokesman for the office of the President Daud Aweys said the President will address AU heads of state on the progress being made in the last two years.

On the sidelines of the summit, Somalia President will also hold talks with UN Chief Ban Ki-moon, Aweys added.

Ebola crisis in West Africa, Boko Haram insurgency and investment opportunities for the continent are high on the agendas during the high-level gathering at AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.

More than 20,000-strong AU peacekeepers prop up Mogadishu-based central government in the fight against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants.

Intense military campaign removed Islamist insurgents from strongholds in central and southern Somalia.
