Somalia: Senators deliver campaign speeches ahead of tomorrow’s election

MOGADISHU, Somalia- 16 candidates vying for the Speaker and Deputy Speakers post of Upper House chamber of Federal Parliament are set to deliver campaign speeches at the provisional Hall of Upper House chamber in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Each candidates contesting for the leadership of Upper House chamber will address the senate about their campaign's agenda in the coming 4 years and their political background ahead of the polls on Sunday.

Two candidates are competing for the Speaker post-reserved for northern region clans- who are Abdi Hashi Abdulahi, a former Federal MP and Mustafa Mohamed Qodah, former Secretary General of Wadani opposition party in Somaliland region.

On the other hand, 14 candidates are reported to contest for the first and second deputy Speakers of Upper House chamber scheduled this week.  

However, following the conclusion of Speakers elections of Upper House chamber, Somalia’s newly sworn-in MPs and Senators will vote for new Somali President in a secret ballot in a date that is not scheduled by the Parliament.
