Somalia: Three journalists appear before Mogadishu court

MOGADISHU, Somalia Sept 4, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Three journalists working for Shabelle and Sky FM stations have appeared before Banadir court on charges of defamation and state-threatening moves on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.
Abdimalik Yusuf Mohamud, Shabelle and Sky FM founder, Mohamud Mohamed Dahir (Arab) and Ahmed Abdi Hassan were arraigned in Mogadishu’s Banadir court with prosecutors saying the defendants are in breach of national unity, presidential dignity, violence stir and journalistic integrity principles.
Two lawyers lobbied for the three but court judges adjourned next trial for unspecified number of days.
Mohamud, Arab and Hassan who had been remaining in Godka Jilicow intelligence base were transferred to Mogadishu central prison.
Somali security forces raided Shabelle radio building, arresting over dozen journalists and forcing the station off air following massive disarmament operation.
Human Rights watchdog called for the unconditional release of the three journalists.
