Somalia: Two clan militias clash at illegal roadblock in Beledweyne

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia Feb 7, 2015 (Garowe Online)-At least five people have been reported killed after heavy fighting raged between two clan militias in Hiran regional capital of Beledweyne of central Somalia on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Ten others were also wounded in the clan fighting over the control of illegal checkpoint in Beledweyne’s Hawlwadag neighborhood.

Medics at Beledweyne General Hospital said, two people with one of them being injured seriously have been admitted for medical treatment.

Hundreds of affected families fled nearby built-up areas for fears of stray mortar fires.

Quarrel over the control of the roadblock firstly degenerated into armed confrontations on Friday afternoon, sources confirmed.

No negotiations have been commenced as of now and tensions remain high.

Recurrent inter-clan feuds claimed at killed dozens in Hiran region. Last month, more than 10 fighters from the opposing sides died in heavy clashes in the village of Deefow.
