​Somalia's President Farmajo reaches Afgooye town

AFGOYE, Somalia- A high-level delegation led by the President of Somali Federal government Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo reached Afgoye town, located 30 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

Accompanied by Defense Minister, military officials, intelligence and Police chiefs and lawmakers, the delegate arrived in Afgoye and were greeted by Southwest State President Sharif Hassan, and cheering crowds waving the Somali flags.

During his visit, President Farmajo is expected to hold several meetings with Southwest state officials, local security forces chiefs and traditional elders to discuss on ways to end the worsening security situation in Lower Shabelle region and defeat al-Shabaab group.

Sources tell GO that Somali president is aiming to visit frontline positions west of Afgoye town, to boost morale of the Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers as part of military buildup in Lower Shabelle.

The African Union troops (AMISOM) and Somali government soldiers were deployed on the streets of Afgoye to jointly tighten the overall security of the town following the arrival of Somali president and his delegate.
