MOGADISHU, Sept 16 (GO) - The Somali presidency has reportedly issued new directives aimed at countering the administration of South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The directives were allegedly discussed during a closed-door meeting at Villa Somalia, the presidential palace, attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe).

Sources close to the meeting revealed that President Mohamud indicated that negotiations with Laftagareen would only be considered if he travels to Mogadishu. The president was firm that no concessions would be made while Laftagareen remains in Baidoa, the capital of South West State.

In addition, there are reports suggesting that Villa Somalia is orchestrating efforts to mobilize opposition against Laftagareen. These efforts could involve organizing meetings in Mogadishu’s hotels where the opposition would voice their concerns against the South West State administration. There are also unconfirmed reports that opposition figures might be transported to Barawe for a political demonstration.

Tensions between the federal government and the South West State administration have been escalating, raising fears of potential clashes in Barawe. Local residents have expressed concerns over the possibility of armed conflict between South West State forces and federal troops stationed in the area.

The situation remains fluid, with observers closely monitoring the next moves by both sides as efforts to deescalate the tensions and preserve peace and stability in the region continue.
