Somalia: Somaliland wants talks with Federal Govt restarted

HARGEISA, Somalia-Somaliland Foreign Affairs Minister Sad Ali Shire told House of Elders that his government will return to table, months after talks failed to produce consensus agreement in Turkey, Garowe Online reports.
Speaking before the hugely powerful traditional forum in the capital, Hargeisa, Mr. Shire expressed his optimism on another round of dialogue very soon.
He noted that Somaliland and UN-backed national government delegations met over nine times to agree some points whose implementation was not fully complied.
On Somaliland’s bid for independence, Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized that they will at first kick off recognition campaign in IGAD member countries.
In October, 2015, Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mohamed Omar Arte, himself from Somaliland, hoped for both sides to resume unity dialogue.
Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as a de facto sovereign State in 1991 but it has not been recognized internationally yet.
