Somalia: UCID leader's Son killed fighting for ISIL in Syria
HARGEISA, Somalia - The leader of UCID, the opposition party of Somalia's northern self-declared republic, Somaliland Faysal Ali Warabe confirmed that his son has been killed fighting for ISIL in Syria, Garowe Online reports.
Speaking to BBC Somali Service, Warabe said his Son - Hussein Faysal Ali Warabe, 24, has left Finland for Syria in 2013 and joined a militant group, along with his wife to fight against the Assad regime
His death was confirmed by his wife who sent a video clip to his Mother in Finland on Saturday, Jan 13, saying her son was killed in an airstrike on 29th Dec in an unnamed ISIL-held location in war-torn Syria.
Hussein, also known as Abu Shuaib As-Somali was one of the most well-known foreign fighters in ranks of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [ISIL] in Syria.
He is survived by his wife and two children, according to his father.
"I don't have any information about the whereabouts of my son's family - wife and two children who were born in Syria during his life with the extremist militant groups," said Warabe.
The late Jihadist's last contact was on Dec 24, informing his mother and siblings about his intentions to leave ISIL in Syria, cross into Turkey on his way to return to Finland, where he was born and raised.
In the latest such incident was reported August 15th, 2017 that Somali-Canadian citizen Farah Mohamed Shirdon, 21, the nephew of the former Somali PM Abdi Farah Shirdon, had been killed in Iraq while fighting on behalf of ISIL.
In the past ten years, there have been many Somali youths left their homes in Europe, Canada, and the United States who joined Al-Shabab in Somalia and the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).
