Washington (GO) – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E), appointing entrepreneur Elon Musk and conservative political figure Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the initiative aimed at reducing federal spending and cutting bureaucratic regulations.

In a statement, Trump described the new department as a vehicle for “significant change” within federal agencies, promising a leaner government and streamlined operations.

“I am pleased that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead this major effort to reform our government,” Trump said. “They bring a new entrepreneurial approach that will drive lasting change.”

Trump indicated that D.O.G.E would collaborate closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget, referring to the project as the “Modern Manhattan Project.” He highlighted that Republican leaders have long sought to create a more efficient and downsized government.

In a separate statement, Musk expressed enthusiasm for the role, noting that the new department would deliver a “shockwave” to the federal system, targeting wasteful spending and inefficiencies.

The Department of Government Efficiency aims to complete its reforms by July 4, 2026, to coincide with America’s 250th Independence Day, a milestone Trump described as the ideal occasion for presenting a “reformed government” to the nation.
