Madobe calls Somalia leaders ‘hapless’

KISMAYO, Somalia-The President of Somalia’s Jubaland Administration Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) said, political leaders should admit to failing in opting for viable model for transition, Garowe Online reports.

After landing at Kismayo airport on Friday, President Madobe slammed Somali political leaders for yielding to external pressure in his first reaction at controversial electoral deal signed in Mogadishu.

Madobe alongside federal leadership and leaders of Puntland, Southwest State and Galmudug attended packed political talks focused on options for electoral transition in 2016 in Mogadishu. The talks initially ended in failure but subsequently succumbed to a deal said to be a political compromise.

Puntland objected to the new election proposal, saying it couldn’t be binding in line with its public opinion.

“As Somali political leaders, we have never agreed something,” he told reporters. “We were merely unsuccessful even under the auspices of international community representations whom I call the sixth clan”.

Continuing, Jubaland President who earlier in January hosted political leadership for deliberations added that Jubaland’s proposal on which Lower House would have been based constituencies and Upper House regions have been sidestepped.

Jubaland is devising anti militant offensive following surprise pullouts by Kenyan-AMISOM forces, Madobe confirmed.

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has returned to Bossaso port city on Thursday.
