UAE condemns attack on Red Crescent convoy in Somalia

Abu Dhabi, UAE- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned the terrorist bombing targeted a convoy ferrying Somali government officials along with Emirates Red Crescent representatives in Mogadishu.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stressed the UAE’s support for Somalia’s government and people, and emphasised that such terrorist acts will not dissuade it from extending a helping hand and aiding Somalia, which is going through a critical humanitarian phase.

The attack occurred on Wednesday west of the Somali capital Mogadishu, as the team was aiming to visit an IDP camp.

No human casualties or losses were caused by the attack but the statement reiterated the UAE’s support for the government and people of the Somalia.

The attack is believed to be launched by the terrorist group al-Shabaab that is aiming to overthrow the western-backed Somali government in Mogadishu.
