Somalia: Puntland Focus Group welcomes President's announcement of the election date

After listening to the Puntland President's interview with BBC Somali Service on Monday:

1 - Puntland Focus Group welcomes and lauds Puntland State President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali "Gaas" for openly announcing that the next Presidential election will be held on January 8, 2018, following our suggestion.

2 - Puntland Focus Group calls on the President before his five-year term ends to give greater priority to the security and focus on the unity of the people ahead of the upcoming elections.

3 - We call upon the traditional elders to elect lawmakers with competence and integrity for the House of the representatives who value of the public sentiment, the general situation of Puntland, committed to lead socio-economic development, political reform and rebirth of Puntland.

4 - We, Puntland Focus Group reiterate our call on President to respect the constitution and protect the state resources which we highlighted in our previous first and second statements.

5 - With full respect, we urge the President to have an extensive consultation and inclusive approach to the creation of the dispute resolution body for the election of members of the House of the representatives.
