Somalia’s international partners welcome the decisions taken by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) at the recent two-day consultation meeting in Mogadishu. The United Nations, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union (EU), Italy, Ethiopia, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America all express their support for the outcome of these constructive discussions.

International partners commend the leaders of Somalia’s Federal Government and Federal Member States for the political process they have achieved on a broad range of issues including national security, drought response, and the fight against corruption.

“I welcome in particular the agreement reached on the key points of a Somali national security architecture. The National Security Council chaired by the President, whose members include regional leaders, will now have a critical role in driving progress,” said Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Michael Keating. “This agreement marks a major milestone for Somalia. It is a cornerstone of the federal state building process and is a basis upon which strengthened security can be built.”

International partners are committed to working together to provide coherent support to the achievement of the government’s priorities, including drought response and recovery, increasing revenues and fighting corruption, and a comprehensive approach to security.
