GAROWE, (GO) - President Said Abdullahi Deni, in the twilight of his constitutional term, finds himself at the center of controversy. Accusations of community conflicts and constitution breaches have been flung his way, and they seem to be sticking.

Just recently, community leaders of the Nugal region gathered in Garowe. Their meeting spawned opposition to proposed constitutional amendments, with participants advocating for a timely Puntland Election and a culturally authentic selection of representatives.

However, this sentiment was not well received by all. The administration of the Nugal region, which many believe is operating under the pressure of the presidency, issued a communique described by critics as a "clear threat." It cautioned that such gatherings would breed conflict and discord.

Meanwhile, in the city of Garowe, a ceremony is taking place to honor a community elder, who is considered a representative of the traditional one of  a prominent tribe in the Nugal region “Issa Mahmud”.

This event has split opinions as some observers speculate the Puntland presidency is stoking this conflict. Critics of President Deni argue that his policies are fuelling divisions among the Somali tribes residing in Puntland.

Amid this turmoil, President Deni has come under fire for failing to implement the Local Council Elections in the Sool and Nugal regions. His administration’s apparent leaning towards an extension period has sparked warnings and raised eyebrows.

The people of Puntland are calling for the timely execution of the election and insist that the completion of this process be left to the incoming government. In contrast, President Deni appears determined to synchronize Puntland's election cycle with the federal election slated 2026, causing additional tension.
