Somalia: Newly elected Garowe Mayor takes office

GAROWE, Somalia, August 30, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Newly-elected mayor of the capital, Garowe, Hassan Mohamed Isse(Godir) has taken oath of office in a well-organized event held at municipalities complex on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Outgoing mayor Ahmed Saed Gelle (Shode) has handed over office to his successor who won closely fought encounter on August 20.

Puntland Health Minister Dr. Abdinasir Osman Uke, Interior Ministry Director-General Muna Dahir Dalmar and municipal officials attended oath-taking event.

Shode who served as interim mayor for a month asked Garowe communities to closely work with the new mayor.

On his side, incoming mayor thanked former mayor Mr. Abdiazis Nur Elmi (Kor) and his predecessor for their tremendous work.

On Election Day, Godir pledged that he will construct a paved road between main highway and Garowe General Hospital.

Garowe city councilors picked him by three votes ahead of his closest rival Awil Sheikh Hamud who secured 12 votes in the tight run-off.
