GAROWE, Somalia, August 16, 2015 (Garowe Online)-A court in Somalia’s North Eastern State of Puntland has begun hearing arguments in a lawsuit filed against FM station that broadcasts daily in the state capital of Garowe on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Sahan radio management, Information Ministry officials and representatives from Puntland Media Fraternity attended the hearing of the case.

On August 12, a letter dated July 29, 2015 and seen by Garowe Online directed Attorney General to take legal action against the private broadcaster for claims of lavish slur.

Nugal court prosecutors postponed the second hearing of the suit to Monday after they failed to find defendants guilty of charges lodged by Puntland Information Ministry.

Sheikh Saed Ahmed Farah, a lawyer who represented Sahan FM in Sunday’s oral arguments asked the government to present testimonies.

On August 1, Radio Sahan allegedly faulted cancelation of official parades on Puntland’s founding day on lack of budget and colossal amounts of state funds squandered on day-to-day activities at Puntland State House.

The lawsuit marks the first to be lodged with a regional court amid outcry by international press watchdogs which blast Putland Government for censoring the media with impunity.
