Somalia: Puntland President appoints new Ministers, Deputy Ministers

GAROWE, Puntland- the President of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland, Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas” has appointed new officials in his cabinet on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

In a presidential decree, a total of 9 Ministers, Deputy Ministers and State Ministers have replaced former officials in the posts, whereas appointing new Minister of Reconstruction and Development Abdiqadir Farah Shaiya for the new created Ministry.  

However, the reason behind creating the new Ministry is unclear, as the current term of Ali’s administration is ending in 18 months.

Majority of the new officials were described as “political novice” but some have already held positions with Somali Federal government in Mogadishu.

The move considered as significant shakeup to the cabinet ministers, as public was expecting the current administration to announce major change of the lineup of ministers.

President Ali assigned new Minister to the Ministry of Information for the post that was vacant for the past 8 months following the resignation of the Minister.
