Somalia: Farmajo in Saudi Arabia, attends Mecca summit
MECCA, Saudi Arabia - Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo landed at Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for the attendance of two-day emergency Arab Summit in Mecca, Garowe Online reports.
The summit has been called for on May 18 by King Salman to discuss the implications of drone strikes on oil installations in the kingdom and attacks on Saudi oil tankers off the UAE coast earlier this month.
An official at Villa Somalia said the forum is an opportunity and significant to Somalia since Gulf nations have recently shown greater interest to invest in the country.
Farmajo joins more than 55 heads of state invited to attend the Mecca summit which aims to form a unified stance on current issues in the Gulf, mainly Iran-U.S. tension and events in the Islamic world.
