MOGADISHU, Somalia-Several mortar shells were fired at the base camp of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Mogadishu late on Monday night, Garowe Online reports.

Halane military base—adjacent to seaside Mogadishu airport—is the largest base of AU peacekeepers battling Al Shabaab insurgents, and a home to a number of western diplomatic missions including Britain’s. Residents of Mogadishu’s Wadajir district woke up to the sound of at least five mortar shells fired in the midnight raid.

A spokesman for AMISOM Joseph Kibet told Somali National News Agency that they were targeted with three mortars that landed nearby.

Mortar attack has not resulted in any casualties according to Kibet.

Driven out of large chunk of territories in central and southern Somalia, Al Shabaab stepped upguerrilla tactics in recent years.
