HARGEISA, Somalia, September 3, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Former Foreign Affairs Minister Ismael Mohamud Hurre (Buubaa) has given up on campaigning on unity platform, Garowe Online reports.

Buubaa Wednesday landed in Somaliland capital, Hargeisa, announcing that he would best serve the interests of the separatist administration.

“I rescinded my decision to seek Somali unity,” Buubaa told journalists at Hargeisa International airport.

Some Somaliland-born politicians have long opposed Somaliland’s bid for independence and preferred to hold key posts in UN-backed national government in Mogadishu.

Buubaa became foreign Affairs Minister between 2000 and 2002 ,and took on the same position with the Transitional Federal Government in 2006.

Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as de facto sovereign state in 1991 but it has not been recognized internationally yet.
