Jubaland Accuses Somali Government of Neglecting National Priorities

KISMAYO, Somalia, Sept 2 – Somalia’s Jubaland state accused the federal government of abandoning key national priorities, including the fight against al Shabaab militants and efforts to maintain national unity.

In a statement, Jubaland said the administration in Mogadishu had failed to make progress on security and good governance, accusing federal leaders of pursuing short-term political interests.

“The safety of the country lies in national unity and responsible leadership,” the statement said.

Jubaland also expressed support for the National Salvation Council, an opposition alliance led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, which concluded a two-day meeting in Mogadishu on Sunday.

In addition, Jubaland stated that it welcomed the outcome of the talks, describing them as crucial for preventing political instability.

The statement comes amid growing tensions between the federal government and several regional states, as Somalia continues to grapple with security threats, economic hardship, and political divisions.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s government has faced criticism over delays in key reforms and its handling of ongoing security operations against al-Shabaab.
