As has been the case, Al Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility for the operation.

Shortly after the explosion, security forces gunned down a militant commando who was trying to shoot his way into the premises, while a bystander restaurateur has been pronounced dead at hospital.

Banadir regional administration spokesman Abdifatah Omar Halane told GO that the headquarters of the traffic police was targeted with a car packed full of explosives.

Halane added that they are prepared to confront future plots similar to today’s botched storm.

Al Shabaab said, it killed nine government soldiers in the attack. Ambulances were seen rushing to the scene to aid at least 13 others reported wounded in the deadly incident.

Militants wearing suicide vests previously carried out assaults inside Mogadishu hotels frequented by government officials and foreigners.
