EL RAGE, Somalia, July 13, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab group has claimed victory in pre-dawn attack on key military base in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

A spokesman for the militants boasted that they overran the base and seized armored vehicles in the raid.

Somalia government has not commented on the deadly attack on its military base as Al Shabaab continues to stage coordinated terror rampages in Ramadan.

Independent sources confirm at least 10 deaths from the squeeze while others from the opposing sides were wounded.

African Union peacekeepers fired volleys of artillery shells over the course of a gun-battle triggered by the deadly raid.

Some bastions in central and southern Somalia are still acquiesced to Al Shabaab control.

Despite drastic blows on the frontline, militants have intensified assaults since the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
