Somalia: Al Shabaab threatens more attacks

MOGADISHU, Somalia-Somali militant Group, Al Shabaab, has threatened UN-backed national government with more attacks, a day after deadly assault on town near Mogadishu left over a dozen people dead, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking on pro-Al Shabaab radio station, Al Shabaab operations spokesman Abdiasis Abu Musab said, there will be upsurge in attacks against targets of Somali government forces and African Union peacekeepers.

Claiming victory in fighting in Afgooye, 25km west of Mogadishu, Abu Musab added that they seized armored vehicles and ammunition in the operation.

“Mujahideen thrust into Afgooye and we were in control for hours. We seized armored vehicles, weapons cache and ammunition, also we destroyed several vehicles” he boasted according to Jowhar news site.

Mogadishu-based federal government dispatched reinforcements, with Intelligence units reaching Marerey and Sabiib.

Al Shabaab stepped up attacks on military bases, and the deadliest assault in recent memory being night raid on Kenyan-AMISOM forces stationed in southwestern El Ade village.

Terror officials captured

Meanwhile in Bay regional district of Diinsoor, Somali troops captured two Al Shabaab officials.

Diinsoor District Commissioner Ibrahim Mohamed told the media that a clean-up operation in the outskirts of the town netted the two unnamed officials.

He noted that they are being interrogated and could subsequently be arraigned before justice.
