Somalia: AU envoy calls for reconciliation on Mandela Day
MOGADISHU, Somalia, July 18, 2015 (Garowe Online)-African Union envoy to Somalia and AMISOM head Ambassador Maman Sidikou has appealed to Somalis to embrace peace and reconciliation on Nelson Mandela Day, Garowe Online reports.
Ambassador Sidikou said in statement that he calls on the people of Somalia to work towards peace and reconciliation after more than twenty years of conflict on Saturday.
He added that at all levels including religious, community and national leadership need to forgive any real and perceived wrongs and reconcile with each other.
“This day challenges us to reflect on the prevailing situation in Somalia. May we be inspired by the ideals of forgiveness and selfless service to the nation and humanity that Madiba has come to be revered for” read the statement from the office of Ambassador Sidikou.
Every year, Nelson Mandela’s birth date, on July 18 is marked worldwide with events.
