Somalia commemorates Teacher’s Day

MOGADISHU, Somalia, November 21, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Events marking National Teachers Day have been held across the country as Higher Education institutions are being built from the scratch, Garowe Online reports.

Somali Education Minister, Khadro Bashir Ali congratulated Somali teachers everywhere on the momentous day.

“I congratulate Somali teachers wherever they are for Somali Teacher’s Day on November 21, May every commemoration find Somali teachers in progress,” said Ali, adding that Somalia prefers marking this day to World Teachers Day celebrated in October every year.

Puntland Education Minister Abshir Aw-Yusuf Isse, himself a long time teacher and lecturer in tertiary level saluted Somali teachers for being at the forefront in efforts of eliminating illiteracy.

Somali education sector was battered by conflict and massive brain drain as a result of state collapse in 1991.
