Somalia: Govt troops, Al Shabaab clash in Gedo, six killed

GARBAHREY, Somalia, October 18, 2015 (Garowe Online)-A battle that left six people from the opposing sides dead occurred in Gedo region of southwestern Somalia on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

The deadly clashes flared up in Massale-Adun vicinity, 23km off Gedo regional capital of Garbaharey.

Gedo Governor Ahmed Bulled Mohamed (Anjeh) told VOA Somali Service that Somali government troops attacked Al Shabaab militants following Zakat collections.

Anjeh noted that they seized back undisclosed number of livestock from militants.

Commander in charge of operation was killed along with a government soldier according to security sources.

Meanwhile, militants targeted reinforcements, killing four troops in the separate incident.

Somali government forces will return recaptured livestock to nomadic families.
