Somalia: Jubaland, SW State leaders mediated ahead of Kismayo forum

MOGADISHU, Somalia, January 9, 2016 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke has brokered an understanding between Jubaland and Southwest State leaders during a private meeting at Mogadishu's Adan Ade International airport on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
The mediation push has come after Southwest State’s Adan declined to attend National Consultative Forum (NCF) in Kismayo on account of alleged support by Jubaland for self-declared Upper Bakool administration.
The Prime Minister has persuaded Adan to join Somali political leaders for Kismayo forum on January 11, a day after the conference’s due date.
Somalia has postponed the critical meeting for technical reasons.
Moreover, Jubaland President is slated for visit to Baidoa where he will embark on negotiations between Southwest State and Upper Bakool officials.
In late December, locals carved a mini-state consisting of Bakool regional districts of El Barde, Yeed and Aato out of Baidoa administration on the grounds of political grievances and marginalization.
