LAMU, Kenya- A landmine explosion was reported to rip through a vehicle ferrying civilians and Kenyan Police forces in Lamu County near Somali borders, Garowe Online reports.

Kenyan Police official said four police officers and four civilians were killed on Tuesday after their vehicle hit a landmine planted on a road near Kenya’s border with Somalia, the second such attack happened this month.

No group has claimed responsibility for the landmine attack on Tuesday.

Earlier, four police officers and one civilian died in a blast in mid June, however, the militant Islamist al-Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for that attack in Kenya.

Al Shabaab, which is fighting to overthrow Somalia’s government, has previously said it will continue to attack Kenya unless it withdraws its troops from an African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

Al Qaida-linked al-Shabaab group has recently intensified terrorist attacks in Kenya, killing army forces and civilians.
