Somalia: Police uncover huge weapons cache in surprise Mogadishu search

MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 31, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somali police forces have uncovered huge cache of weapons in surprise search inside a mosque in volatile Mogadishu on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

The search operation targeted a mosque believed to be run by beleaguered Al Shabaab group in Mogadishu’s Hodon district, Minister for National Security and Police Chief told the media.

The stash included anti-aircraft weapons, rocket propelled grenades and launchers.

Security Minister Abdirizak Omar Mohamed praised police for their intelligence of dangerous cache.

Somali security services have acknowledged that Al Shabaab is in possession of seized arms depot. Mogadishu has been a spot for broad daylight militant attacks against government officials and foreigners.
