Somalia’s political leaders hold meeting to solve election dispute

DHUSAMAREB, Somalia - The president of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has opened a meeting with the leaders of the Federal States in Dhusamareb city on Wednesday.

This is the fourth round of talks aimed at accelerating the Country's Electoral Process in line with the September 17th Agreement Approved by the Federal Parliament of Somalia.

The consultative forum brings together President Farmajo, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, and presidents of five Federal States as well as the mayor of Mogadishu Omar Filish.

The leaders are discussing efforts at the Federal and state level to implement the electoral process, ensure political stability and security in the country after delays in the voting schedule three times since October 2020 due to the dispute.

Before the Dhusamareb meeting kicked off, the opposition candidates in Mogadishu called for inclusive dialogue to reach a broad-based consensus on the differences over the upcoming elections in Somalia. 

Farmajo who has five days left for his 4-year term in office has highlighted the importance of the unity of the Somali people who went through difficult times to rebuild the nation after three decades of conflict.
