Somalia: Somaliland judiciary undergoes major shakeup
HARGEISA, Somalia, August 31, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Somaliland Justice Minister has announced a major shakeup that saw sixteen judges and prosecutors across the breakaway region removed, Garowe Online reports.
Hussein Ahmed Aideed, Justice Minister told reporters in Somaliland capital of Hargeisa that judicial service commission proposed the massive shakeup that marks the first of its kind in recent years.
The changes affected courts in Marodijeh, Togdher, Sanag, Sahil and Sool regions where nearly 90 judicial officials were assigned.
United Nations Development Programme assists Somaliland in capacitating judiciary and other law enforcement bodies.
Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as de facto sovereign state in 1991 but it has not been recognized internationally yet.
