Somalia: Suicide Attack targets UN convoy near Mogadishu airport

MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 3, 2014 (Garowe Online)-A car packed full of explosives hit United Nations convoy on a road leading to Mogadishu’s Adan Adde International airport, leaving at least four people dead according to officials on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

Local reports disclose that the car bomb attack occurred in front of Jubba airways offices, a few kilometers away from the entrance to the airport.

African Union peacekeepers stationed at AMISOM headquarters of Halane immediately cordoned-off the scene of the explosion, and pressed ahead with search operations.

The suicide bombing took place less than an hour after Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud departed for Baidoa for the inauguration of Southwest state leader.

Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants yesterday killed 36 Kenyan quarry workers in the northeaster county of Mandera.

Somali government forces aided by AU peacekeepers have so far squeezed militants out of key springboards in central and southern Somalia.
