Somalia: Suicide car bombing in the capital Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- A suicide car bomb has exploded in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Monday, targeting security forces, Garowe Online reports.

Banadir region spokesman Abdifatah Omar Halane, has confirmed the incident to the local media, he said an explosive-laden vehicle exploded near Ba’ad market in Yaqshid district, wounding 4 people with no fatalities.

“The suspected car was intercepted by Somalia’s Intelligence forces (NISA) at a roadblock near Ba’ad market,” added Halane.

The security forces arrested the driver with pistol in his possession and he was later detained in Godka Jili'ow prison run by NISA in Mogadishu.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab group has carried out similar attacks against government officials, security forces and African Union peacekeeping troops.   

There has been an increase in violence in Mogadishu in recent weeks, including mortar raids and suicide bombings amid Somalia preparation to hold elections.
