Somalia: Upper House elections began in Southwest, Jubaland

BAYDABO, Somalia- The elections of Upper House candidates has commenced in the regional capitals of Jubaland and Southwest states on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

State parliamentarians of both regions are expected to vote for the candidates representing Jubaland and Southwest in the upcoming Upper House chamber of Federal Parliament.

Somali government officials-term ended in September 10- are attending the election sessions held at the Parliament Hall in both regions.

According to our reporter whose attending the event in Baydabo, told GO that 16 contenders among them women candidates are contesting for the 8 seats quota for Southwest state. 

"The ballot in Southwest state saw the victory of Abdikafi Moalim Hasan for the first Upper House seat after obtaining majority 88 votes," added the source. 

On the other hand, Jubaland state is expected to declare the results of the ballot later today and the winners of the 8 seats.

Yesterday, Upper House candidates from both regions have wrapped up their campaign speech in front of state parliamentarians and state officials who attended the sessions.
