MOGADISHU, Somalia (GO) – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has accused certain foreign diplomats of violating the country’s sovereignty and unity. He announced plans to summon those involved for clarification and warned of potential consequences for further breaches.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for diplomats held at the ministry’s headquarters, Fiqi highlighted that some ambassadors who recently visited Hargeisa, the capital of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland, had overstepped their mandate. He stated that the ministry would take action against those who disregarded Somalia’s territorial integrity.

“We are planning to summon one of these ambassadors who has blatantly disregarded the sovereignty of our nation,” said Fiqi. He did not disclose the identity of the diplomat or the country they represent but confirmed that they had been asked to return to Somalia for discussions.

Fiqi emphasized that the diplomats who traveled to Hargeisa failed to represent their nations as accredited to Somalia and warned this behavior would not be tolerated.

“We also caution all diplomats that any future statements they release regarding Somaliland must clearly recognize it as a region within Somalia. Failure to do so will result in appropriate measures,” he added.

The minister’s remarks come shortly after several diplomats visited Hargeisa to observe Somaliland’s presidential election preparations. Reports indicate that some of the diplomats avoided mentioning Somalia in official communications, sparking discontent within the Somali federal government.

The federal government has reiterated its stance that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia, and any actions suggesting otherwise are viewed as undermining Somalia’s sovereignty.
