​Somalia: Militants claim killing senior military officer in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The militant group al-Shabaab has killed senior Somali military officer in front of his own house in the capital Mogadishu last night, the latest incident by the group, Garowe Online reports.

Colonel Abdullahi Elmi Nur, the head of ambulance service for Somali military has been shot dead in Mogadishu's Wadajir district by two men armed with pistols, who later escaped the shooting scene.

"We are behind the killing of the military colonel called Abdullahi Elmi Nur in Mogadishu last night," Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Musab, al-Shabaab’s military operation spokesman, told group's Radio Andalus.

Somali Police and security forces reached the scene later to investigate and pursue the armed militants who gunned down the officer who no guards with him when he was killed, according to eyewitnesses.

In separate incidents, two electoral delegates, Abdisalan Abdullahi and Mohamad Abukar, both from Somalia's Southwest state were assassinated on Wednesday evening by unknown gunmen in the capital.

The murder of the two elders, becomes the 4th separate assassinations in Mogadishu in the last 24 hours.

The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab fighters launch sporadic car bomb attacks and targeted killings against security personnel and Elders in Mogadishu, in its bid to topple Somalia's Western-backed Government.
