MOGADISHU, Somalia - In Somalia's Lower Shabelle region, a civilian vehicle triggered a landmine, resulting in the death of three individuals and leaving another wounded, local officials reported Monday.

According to the local administration's statement, the incident unfolded in the Doonka region, on the road between the districts of Wanlaweyn and Afgooye, as the vehicle traveled from Afgooye.

The explosive was confirmed to be a landmine, a tactic often employed by militant groups in the area. As yet, no faction has claimed this act of violence.

The Lower Shabelle area is frequently marred by attacks attributed to Al-Shabaab, Somalia's notorious Islamist group, which continuously targets both civilian and military objectives, including those under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

This latest incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by civilians in Somalia's conflict zones. In response, there are calls for enhanced security and the intensification of demining efforts.

The authorities have promised further details on the blast which comes amid military operation in the region by the Somali army along with AU troops.
