A female officer with the United Nations Refugee Agency and her driver were killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday in Somalia’s capital, said policeman Mohamed Dahir.

The gunmen, who are suspected al-Shabaab militants, blocked the vehicle traveling in Mogadishu before opening fire on it, Dahir said by phone on Monday.

While African Union forces supporting local troops have seized territory from al-Shabaab in recent years, including retaking control of Mogadishu, the militants still carry out frequent gun and bombing attacks against civilians and government figures.
