NAIROBI, Kenya - The multi-agency security teams in Kenya led by the Kenya Defense Forces [KDF] raided the Al-Shabaab medical camp in the Northeastern part of the country, authorities confirmed, as the teams continue to pursue the militants in all frontlines.

According to security teams, the militants had established a medical camp in Hagarso within the Fafi constituency in Garissa, where they have been treating injured colleagues on the battlefield. The camp, which has since been destroyed, is in interior parts of the region.

During the raid, authorities confirmed, two Al-Shabaab "doctors" were killed and their bodies dispossessed. The two, reports indicate, were responsible for the treatment of injured colleagues, whenever the militants suffered setbacks in the field, due to increased multi-agency security activities.

Also recovered were medical supplies and IED-making materials, police said. The incident took place miles from where two security officers died on Monday morning while headed to an examination center before their vehicle drone on an IED, which injured several other officers.

The death of the two militants comes a few days after the multi-agency security teams also destroyed two bases that the militants were temporarily using for launching attacks. Kenya has heightened operations along the common border with Somalia due to reported incidents of cross-border terrorism.

In Somalia, Al-Shabaab is scrambling for survival following an operation by the Somali National Army [SNA] with support from the US Africa Command and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS]. The operation has left over 3,000 militants dead, officials said.

The operation is set to shift to Jubaland and Southwest states which border Kenya, necessitating increased surveillance by Kenyan security teams across the border. KDF uses Jubaland as the buffer zone in the Al-Shabaab war thus the interest in the state.

At least 14 Forward Operating Bases have been established along the border with Somalia, in which KDF officers will be operating once they fully withdraw from Somalia. KDF soldiers serving in ATMIS are expected to leave the Horn of Africa nation by December 2024 upon full implementation of the Somali Transition Plan, the mission said.
