Uganda's High Commissioner to Kenya Hassan Wasswa Galiwango is dead

NAIROBI, Kenya - Dr. Hassan Galiwango, Uganda's High Commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles has died in a Nairobi hospital on Monday morning while undergoing treatment.

The death of Dr. Hassan Galiwango was announced by Uganda's first deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga through his verified Tweeter Account.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of H.E Dr. Galiwango, High Commissioner of Uganda to Kenya, which occurred this morning," she tweeted.

The late Dr. Galiwango was the husband of Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, Ms. Connie Nakayeze Galiwango.

Prior to his appointment by President Museveni as the high commissioner to Kenya in October 2020, Dr. Galiwango was also the former long-serving director of finance and administration at the NRM secretariat.

The cause of his death is yet to be communicated by the government.

Since early Monday morning, tributes have been flowing on various political leaders and governments across the East African region about the Ambassador whom many have described as a great support system.

Dr. Alfred Mutua, Kenya's Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary condoled with the family of Dr. Galiwango.

"My condolences to the President, Government, and the people of Uganda on the passing of Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Hassan Galiwango, who passed away this morning in Nairobi Hospital. My deepest sympathies to his family. Rest In Peace Ndugu," CS Mutua said in a tweet.
