Hormuud now expands its MNC from O61 to 077 to accommodate high-growing subscribers

MOGADISHU - Somalia’s largest telecommunication company-Hormuud has announced the expansion of its Mobile Network Code (MNC) to meet the increasing demands of our growing subscriber base.

The initial MNC (061), has been expanded to include (077), to provide seamless connectivity and enhanced services to our customers.

According to Hormuud’s deputy communications manager, Hassan Dahir, “At Hormuud,” This expansion represents a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering unparalleled mobile services to our valued customers. By enhancing our network capabilities.”

Dahir added that” The addition of the (077) MNC allows us to allocate more resources and optimize our network capacity to ensure exceptional connectivity and improved user experience for both new and existing subscribers.”

The Somalia-based private telco firm will now the expansion, to accommodate the growing number of subscribers and provide them with seamless access to advanced mobile services, including high-speed data, voice calls, and innovative digital solutions.

The firm remains dedicated to continuously investing in its network infrastructure and advancing technological capabilities to stay ahead of evolving customer needs.

“This expansion is an affirmation of our ongoing commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction,” Dahir points out.

Hormuud Telecom has a proven track record of driving digital inclusivity in Somalia. It was the first company to introduce mobile money services in Somalia in 2011 and the first company to obtain the GSMA's Mobile Money Certification last year, for following internationally-recognized standards.

Recently, the firm inked a new deal with GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Programme (M4H).

GSMA M4H will provide technical support and facilitate partnerships with humanitarian organizations, while Hormuud will share best practices and insights from their experience in mobile money cash transfers and other mobile-enabled services.  

The aim is to improve access to mobile-enabled services for digitally excluded populations, such as Hormuud’s Humanitarian Portal.  

The Portal is underpinned by Hormuud’s mobile money platform, EVC Plus, which allows humanitarian organizations to distribute up to US$ 1 million with a single click of a button. It has become an essential tool to help INGOs distribute cash aid in-country.
