MOGADISHU, Somalia - On Wednesday, January 4, Hormuud Salaam Foundation concluded a transformative five-day training course aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of teachers and staff at Al Nor school for the blind in Darussalam, Mogadishu.

In Arabic, the word Alnor means light. It is therefore not a coincidence that scores of blind children come to the Alnor School for the Blind in Mogadishu, Somalia, to illuminate their lives in a quest for a brighter future.

The teacher training was provided by Prof. Bansali from Uganda, who is highly qualified in the education of the blind and those with special needs.
During the training, the teachers were taught how to use and repair modern typing machines for visually impaired individuals. Furthermore, they received training in sports as well as instructions in technology for the visually impaired, particularly the computer for blind individuals, which they described as valuable.

HSF vice chairman Abdirahman Ibrahim Elmi, who spoke at the end of the training, stated that they are delighted to be holding this training for a second consecutive year, adding that such training, will enhance the quality of teachers at AL NOR school.

The principal of Al-Nor primary and Secondary School for the Blind, Abdifatah Mohammed Dahir, said that this training will take place annually. In addition, he thanked Hormuud Salaam Foundation for its unwavering support of the school over the past ten years.

Since Hormuud Telecom assumed responsibility for the school in 2012, Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF) has paid all the expenses associated with the school including education, food, accommodation, and health care. In addition to this, Hormuud Telecom built a large building for the school in Darussalam, which includes classrooms, residences, offices, and a mosque.

Persons with disabilities in Somalia as in many other countries, face numerous challenges that result in their exclusion from the mainstream of society, making it difficult for them to access their fundamentally social, political, and economic rights.

Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF) established in May 2013 is the charity organization of Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank in Somalia.
