Hormuud Telecom receives GSMA Mobile Money Certification at the MWC22 International Conference
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Hornuud Telecom received the GSMA Mobile Money Certification for its EVC Plus product at the GSMA Mobile World Congress Africa (MWC2022) event in Kigali, Rwanda, on Tuesday.
The Mobile Money Certification is issued by the GSMA association, which unites around 800 of the world's mobile operators in 219 countries, as well as another 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.
This certificate is a global initiative to bring safer, more transparent, and more resilient financial services to millions of mobile money users around the world. Hormuud Telecom successfully met the requirements of this certificate, which is based on independent assessments of its ability to deliver secure and reliable services that protect the rights of consumers.
Hormuud, the leading telecommunications provider in Somalia, which delivers the most accepted mobile money in Somalia, EVC Plus, becomes the first mobile operator in the country to receive this certificate, which enhances the consumer's trust and promotes excellence in the provision of mobile money services. In 2021, the Central Bank of Somalia licensed the first mobile money platform, EVC Plus.
Mobile money plays a crucial role in the development of the financial sector in Somalia and has gained popularity in the past decade globally. Today, there are 1.35 billion registered mobile money users in 98 countries, processing over $1 trillion in transactions annually.
