Somalia: Caretaker Prime Minister arrives Puntland
GAROWE, Puntland- A delegation led by the caretaker Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, has arrived Garowe city, the regional capital of Puntland state, on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
Among the delegate were Puntland Parliament Speaker Ahmed Ali Hashi and Puntland Civil Aviation Minister, who visited the Somali capital of Mogadishu and attended the recent National Leadership Forum along with Puntland Vice President.
However, the delegate was received by Puntland President Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas”, cabinet ministers, elders and members of the civil society at Garowe’s Airport.
In a joint press statement by caretaker PM and Puntland President, they spoke to the media at the State House and said they will hold further talks regarding the ongoing electoral process and droughts situation in the region.
During the press conference, President Ali thanked the caretaker PM for his visit and revealed its aimed to support the ongoing parliamentary elections to ensure timely process.
On his side, caretaker Prime Minister has commended Puntland President for the hospitality and stated the need to facilitate the delayed parliamentary election in the region.
He also said that they will jointly call for an assistance from the international community for intervention to avert worsening drought situation and provide aid to stricken nomadic community in Puntland state.
It’s noteworthy that PM Sharmarke is a presidential candidate and his current visit to Puntland state, is expected to revolve around his presidential campaign, as he seeking the top office in the country in the forthcoming presidential election.
He recently visited Kismayo, the regional capital of Jubbaland state, and reported he urged the new parliamentarians that will represent Jubbaland in the Upper and Lower Houses of Federal Parliament for the need for leadership change in the upcoming election.
