​Somalia: President Ali officially opens the new building for Ministry of Women

GAROWE, Puntland- The President of Somalia’s semi-autonomous government of Puntland, has cut the ribbon off the new building for Ministry of Women and Family Affairs on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

The opening event was attended by Puntland President Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas”, Minister of Women and Family Affairs, top government officials, representatives from international organizations and members of the civil society.

During the speech segment, Minister of Public Works gave a remark about the stages it took to complete the project which started back in 2010. He also praised the agencies involved to implement the project and noted the new building will support the Ministry to accomplish many tasks.

On her side, the Minister of Women, Anisa Abdulqadir Haji, talked about the features of the new headquarters including children care center and multipurpose rooms.

“I thank President Ali, Minister of Public Works and international agencies UN-Habitat and UNDP for their efforts and providing the funds to build the new compound for Ministry of Women and Family Affairs,” said Haji.

Additionally, President Ali expressed his happiness to open the new headquarters for the Ministry and hailed the implementing agencies for the work accomplished.   

Similarly, representatives from international agencies noted the importance of having new building which will facilitate for the Ministry to work in full capacity and reiterated support for the Ministry on more projects.
