WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden has insisted that the United States will work closely with Somalia on the social-economic transformation of the people through close partnerships in different spheres for the betterment of lives of people across the two countries.

In his message on Independence Day, Joe Biden, who is fighting for re-election in November, said the friendship between the two countries will live on, adding that the United States shall endeavor to impact lives of people in the Horn of Africa nation.

America is a key security and development partner of Somalia and is playing a critical role in fighting violent extremists and armed groups within the country. The US trains Danab commandos who are the lead security team in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

“As critical partners, our nations are working together to build a better world for our children, and children everywhere. The United States stands with Somalia in its continued efforts to advance security, build inclusive economic growth, promote governance reform and human rights, and tackle climate shock and drought,” President Biden stated.

The nomination of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the United Nations Security Council, Biden added, is a significant achievement for the country which is battling with instability. The move, he said, showcases the confidence of the international community in Somalia.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen existing bilateral ties between the two states and said the United States will support Somalia as it continues taking over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) which is set to conclude its forces’ drawdown this year

In Nairobi, over 70 diplomats from friendly nations and representatives from international organizations praised Somalia’s achievements and urged continued development efforts and collaboration.

Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya, expressed gratitude to the diplomats and guests for joining the celebration and supporting Somalia’s progress. Kenya is one of the Troops Contributing Countries of ATMIS in Somalia.
